So if someone would go back in time to the point where I decided that it would be a super cool idea to make a podcast "for fun", I'd really appreciate it. That would save me a Sunday, a migraine, and a general sense of my own shortcomings when it comes to figuring out how the hell video compression works and/or the internet.
However, since none of my friends have revealed to me that they have yet to master time travel, I should probably announce that TINA AND I MADE A PODCAST.
Okay, I should probably explain (try to explain - we all know my explanations never make that much sense). It all started because I spend an awful lot of time driving. As a reaction to the fact that I was getting sick of all the music I'd ever heard ever, I started listening to podcasts. The Nerdist Podcast is a good one - I really loved the Brian Henson interview particularly - and after I went through all their other interviews of interest, I began to transition into listening to other podcasts as well. While listening, because I am incapable of focusing on one thing at a time, I started thinking: it might be kind of fun to make a podcast of my own.
.....about, uh, something.
Something fun. And hopefully not just to me.
Brian wound up giving me the idea completely on accident, something he probably would prefer I don't give him credit/blame for, when he insisted that we watch the 1943 version of Jane Eyre. It was a really weird adaptation - Orson Welles is not exactly my idea of a tortured heartthrob - and Brian kept asking me how my impressions from the book were either hit or completely missed by that particular production. Then, I started comparing it to the two other adaptations of the book I've seen with Michael Fassbender and Timothy Dalton, and told Brian to look those guys up on Youtube. To our surprise, though, there are about 94 (okay, 7) other adaptations of this book, and prominent ones at that! Kind of seems like overkill - what the heck needs that many adaptations? Why? What's the point, especially when Timothy Dalton was that perfect mixture of being Attractive Timothy Dalton and Creepy Timothy Dalton that made for an excellent Rochester Timothy Dalton?
And really, this is a pretty common practice. There are quite a few books that have been converted into a veritable crap ton of movies, such as Dracula, Great Gatsby, Frankenstein, Christmas Carol, etc etc etc, which all vary as to quality and accuracy. With all of this in mind, I thought maybe it would be kind of interesting to have discussions where, in 30 minute podcast segments, myself (and Tina, because I really like making her suffer) pick a book, read it, and then pick 2 or so adaptations to discuss in relation to the book.
So, for the first time around, we picked Red Dragon, since everyone is pretty much in the throes of Hannibal love right now, and Tina and I have been slowly (well, slowly for me - she's done) making our way through the book series. Then, we picked the two films Manhunter (which we did not like, much to Gory's dismay. SORRY GORY!!!!!) and Red Dragon to talk about (along with the show, naturally). Since this was our first podcast attempt we ran 10 minutes longer than we'd meant to, but WE'LL GET BETTER!
Here it is! Feel free to give us advice, except for things like "stop doing that". Because that's just mean.
I'd have uploaded it here officially, but it was being kind of rude. Blah.
For next time we're gonna do Emma by Jane Austen (I'm throwing up in my mouth), but then we're going to watch the BBC adaptation and Clueless!! So, if anyone wants to join us next time, let us know. We're gonna assume nobody does, but yaknow... JUST IN CASE!
We hope we'll have the Emma podcast up for about this time next month. Just for reference. If you want to still be our friend.
Just sayin'.

I made a really classy logo for it, too. Aren't you impressed? I used MARKERS.
