So I couldn't think of anything to write about for a blog entry yesterday, since I'm still kind of in a weird void where I float around and touch on a whole bunch of different subjects without really focusing on any single idea. I know blogs are probably supposed to be more focused than this, but heck. The problem is, though, that I am similarly floating around and doing a bunch of random things with my spare time now, most of which are not things I want to discuss until they're done.
I will say I did buy some materials to try and make a Vanessa Ives costume. Maybe that's what I'll write on for next week, then.
This morning, though, I saw that I'd been tagged by Shae on FB to do a 7 sentences prompt, which at first I planned on not doing. Generally I'm kind of quiet about my writing. I'm oddly self conscious about it, so my conversational pool on the topic is pretty small, smaller still in the number of people who've actually read what I've written.
Fiction-wise, that is. But really, same with this blog. HAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.
I actually do work on my writing a lot, and am finally finishing up the very last edits on the first book I completed (Dominion Jar, which I received edits for like two years ago from the lovely Michele. I spent those following two years hemming and hawing and biting my nails over the prospect of actually being done with the book and possibly having to let people read it). I've also got three other stories that I'm working on; two are stories I completed for NaNoWriMo and are re-writing completely, because NaNo is pretty much just for practice, and then a few months ago I finished the first full rewrite of the second book that follows Dominion Jar, Nothing That is Not.
Should I be italicizing these titles? It feels weird to do it for my own stuff. I refuse. Suck it, MLA.
But anyway, I figured that maybe it would be fun to do the 7 sentences thing after all, though I decided to post them here instead of on FB. As far as I know this is not a blog that people accidentally stumble upon (or stay if they have), so this way I can post my sentences while being relatively secure in the idea that no one is going to see them unless they really want to. So, here are 7 sentences from page 7 of Nothing That is Not:
For the first time
in two weeks, Andy laughed. The sound bubbled up out of her like
hysteria, and she choked on it for a good minute. "Christ,"
she wheezed, scrubbing her hands over her face. "If I'd
wanted to be told everything is going to be alright, I would have
called literally anybody else. Not you."
When
Andy dropped her hands, she was startled to find that Pegs had leaned
all the way across the table, her scarred, eerie face only inches away.
"Then tell me why I am
here," Pegs ground out, head tilted down against the light, her hollow cheeks
making her look spectral and ghoulish. "If you
don't know what you want, then I don't know what you expect from me."
Hot dog.
Okay, full disclosure, this is actually from page 6. The problem with page 7 is that it directly discusses the ending of Dominion Jar, so I figured that would probably be a stupid set of sentences to include. So, you get a page earlier.
I dunno who to tag, since I'm not sure who is even currently working on anything anymore. But, if anyone who winds up reading this is working on something and decides to post sentences, let me know! I want to read!
