Do You Believe There is a Demimonde? And that it possesses candles?

So if you don't know me, or you've never seen my posts anywhere ever, then you probably are unaware of the fact that I am pretty much obsessed with Penny Dreadful. I really enjoy the show; I love how strange it is, how weird all of the characters are, the way they are all a mixture of good and bad, are as liable to do questionable things as they are to do good things.

And naturally, my favorite is Vanessa Ives, because she is fierce and amazing and Eva Green, because duh. 

So yes, interestingly enough this is a costume I'm going to try making, pretty much just for the hell of it. Why this one, I don't know. Well, okay, that's a complete lie. I managed to find workable fabric in the half off bin, and thought "eh". If I'm gonna make myself crazy, I may as well do it as cheaply as possible. So, we'll see how it goes. Here's an example of the fabric:

Oh. And I also decided to try making a Vanessa Ives inspired candle. Waaahoo! A few problems so far, namely that this really isn't the color I wanted - It was supposed to be a purply blue, but came out looking more patriotic than anything else. I also wound up making too much, and only had one candle holder jar, so that was stupid. I've only just lit it, so we'll see what the smell is like. 

I may wind up being the only person who likes this scent anyway. I used rose and anise star, which kind of smells like licorice. I dunno, it seemed like a Vanessa Ives kind of scent - dark and spicy and strange. We'll see. When Brian comes back I'll make him smell it, and if he doesn't immediately throw it across the room in horror we'll assume it's a success.
