This Post Feels Dull

Well, I managed a grand total of two blog posts for January. Considering my blog post portfolio for 2018 contained a staggering 4 posts, I'm halfway there! Woohoo! Maybe we'll see if I can work my way up to the heady days of 2017, where I managed to post 15 times! Of course, I'd have to be able to keep track of what the heck is going on, first. I'd also have to stop being such a procrastinator; half my problem is that I put off writing about certain things and events, and then by the time I sit down to consider the blank blogger screen, I've completely forgotten everything that happened.

Does that happen to anyone else? Is it just me? Should I be seeing someone about this? Eh. I'll do it later.

I have managed to take steps toward proactively attempting to remember stuff that's happened, though. Previously, I had a book where I would write down big things that happened (books coming out, filming things, Academicasaurus recordings, etc), but the fact is that more often than not, I tend to squiggle my way through the peripherals of activity. I do little things at random moments, and those are what wind up getting completely lost. I'd like to remember how long it took me to make certain things. For instance, I don't remember how long I spent working/not working/avoiding this Hippo painting:

And yes, it is a real painting - oils and all!

I just finished another Hippo painting (no good pictures yet) and began a third, so since one of my lofty New Years Resolutions is to try and make a painting a month, it would be nice to have an idea of what I work on and when. Maybe that way I could distill down what seems to be most effective for me in terms of doing things.

For instance, right now I'm writing this when I'm supposed to be grading. That's always a sure-fire inspiration, because when I'm grading, I would definitely, 100% rather be doing ANYTHING ELSE. And that's not even necessarily because the student work is bad. I just don't want to do it.

Regardless, this is my new thing for 2019 - trying to remember stuff. Oh, that reminds me - I did submit pictures to the nature center contest! I went and got them printed up at Walgreens, which was pretty reasonably priced. They came out well! I submitted the following:

I didn't win any of the prizes, so wah. In my opinion, the true winner was robbed. There was a picture of a bird that had jelly stuck to its beak from a berry, and it was the best photo ever, but it didn't get anything! Insanity, I tell you. However, the people's choice prize is still open until the end of the month, so if anyone would like to band together and drive to the forest preserve to vote for me, that would be incredibly amusing (and probably wouldn't work). Maybe vote for the bird with jelly on its beak - I sure did.
